Two days back, there was a newspaper article on a decreasing market for meat. People in the rural Vidarbha region in India are not buying meat. Not that they have turned veggies overnight. Infact they are eating more. The change is that they are now into trapping wildlife like deer and all that strays into the villages from the nearby forest tracks in search of water!
Water is life. Statements like "Future wars will be fought over water" is likely to be true. Now there are even suggestions that the price of drinking water should be hiked. This suggestion is to force users into using it more judiciously.
Whether the price is increased or not, let us understand that drinking water is going to be a very scarce resource sooner or later. Let us not waste it. At the same time, let us re-charge the underground resorvoirs by allowing rainwater to go deep into the Earth.
